Elisa, beyond the media center

Florian Boucault (Fluendo)
Catwalk Small

Elisa is a beautiful, easy to use media center. With Elisa you can enjoy your local movies, pictures and songs. You can access online services like Flickr and YouTube, download and share your content. Everything from your favorite desktop. From a developer point of view Elisa is a powerful development platform. With its plugin system Elisa can be extended to access content from anywhere, can be integrated with existing applications and desktop environments and much much more.

The talk will focus on Elisa as a platform for writing multimedia extensions. After a quick demo of the media center, I will show how easy it is to write plugins using the same tools and libraries that GNOME hackers use every day (GObject, Python, GStreamer, ...). I will give some examples of how to write plugins that access online content, and some ideas on how to integrate Elisa with GNOME.
