There are at least two ideas to explore: having better tools and getting more help from developers.
We’re currently using Damned Lies to get statistics about the translation status of GNOME, and that’s about the only tool we currently have. Some teams use specific tools (like vertimus for the fr team), and some other tools have been built to also help (transifex, pootle, etc.). What are they? Would it make sense to use them? Can we integrate them in our infrastructure?
Right now, when developers write some code, they mark strings as translatable, sometimes they add a comment for translators, and it happens that they also had a context for the string. Is this enough? Maybe more could be done, like having a way to tell translators that this string will be displayed in a tooltip, or in a menu.
The talk will be an introduction on all this, followed by the important part: a discussion with all the participants so we can get some ideas on where we want to go.
