gDesklets - Eyecandy and useful miniprograms on your desktop
gDesklets is a cool project, its target is create mini useful and pretty applications without the need to invest too much time working on them. Technically speaking, you won’t have several interpreters or commands running on your box, just gdesklets will run and it will show/destroy a desklet no matter how many desklets you wish to have.
The project website is www.gdesklets.de and we have released some versions, the last one is 0.36 and many distributions include it like: Ubuntu, Mandriva, Fedora, Gentoo, among others. Talking about development today there are 3 main categories:
- stable (0.36)
- testing (0.3x)
- a prototype version (0.4)
In this talk I would like to show:
- how to create some basic and advanced desklets (or just show advanced ones, depends on the audience).
- how can developers and users help to this project
- some tasks we are doing
- what we would like to develop next (TODO).
People planning to attend this session also want to see:

I’m a chilean person living in Chile :-) and working for a french company. I have involved in several open source projects like Django, PostgreSQL, Gnome and gDesklets. The last one is the “current one” which I’m active the most.
