Introducing APOC
APOC (A Point Of Control) is an infrastructure for central storage (e.g in an LDAP directory) of desktop and application settings, which can be managed for users, groups, roles and hosts. It currently supports GNOME gconf and Java preferences with firefox and OpenOffice.org preferences in preparation.
The APOC project originated when the code of the Sun Desktop Manager product was released in late 2007 under a dual CDDL/GPLv2 license on freedesktop.org.
Adapting APOC to Ubuntu Linux
As it has been free for only a short time, APOC hasn’t become part of most GNOME distributions yet. We document the steps needed to bring up APOC on a new platform (Ubuntu Linux) and to adapt its settings templates to a new platform version.
System administrators and Distro maintainers interested in bringing the power of APOC to their GNOME desktop, can easily do the same for their platform.
Ease of Administration with APOC
Of course we also showcase the power and ease of administration APOC provides to administrators of large GNOME installations.
